Porcelain/ceramic veneers are a cosmetic fix for chipped, stained or misaligned teeth. A dental veneer is a ceramic laminate, often as thin as a contact lens, applied to the front of the teeth. Generally, a small amount of enamel is removed from the front of your tooth to make room for the application of the veneer. Veneers can correct the size, shape, length, color and spacing of your natural teeth. Patients often inquire about “Lumineers”. Lumineers are ceramic veneers manufactured by a dental lab called DenMat. Lumineers are exceptionally thin and are intended for placement onto teeth that have not had any enamel removed at all. For certain patients, this is an ideal conservative way to place veneers. For others, the result can appear bulky or unnatural, and some enamel removal is necessary in order to avoid this look. Your dentist will be happy to discuss the many options available for your specific needs.
